MAYSTAR SCHOOL is a brand new basic school which opened for the very first time in January 2022 with the Pre-school or Early Years department. It will grow incrementally, with the Primary department starting with Grades 1 and 2 in the 2023 academic year. It runs the Ghanaian national curriculum but has an international outlook.

Founder and Headmistress

Maystar School is the brain-child of Mrs. Mabel Owusu-Addo, an experienced educationist with over 30 years’ experience of working in schools in Ghana. After 12 years of teaching in her alma mater, Aburi Girls’ Secondary School, she moved into the international school system, starting with a year’s French teaching at the Ghana International School, a Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) school. She joined the Tema International School, an International Baccalaureate (IB) World school, as Vice Principal and French and Spanish teacher. She is the immediate-past Principal of nine years of East Airport International School, also a CAIE school and worked very closely with the British Council.

It is with this wealth of knowledge, skills and experience that she establishes MAYSTAR SCHOOL.

Facilitation Approach

We adopt a combination of the various Early Years teaching approaches in facilitating the child’s learning. Activities focus on building trust for the role of the educator, artistic activities, and a warm and healthy classroom environment, with the aim of nurturing and producing confident and assertive young people.

It aims to see the potential in each child as a fully rounded individual. Collaborative classroom activities foster relationships with others and the world around them.
